Ireland’s longest established organisation dedicated to European Affairs makes senior appointment.
Dublin, 15th February 2017: European Movement Ireland (EM Ireland) has today announced the appointment of Niamh Connolly to the new role of Communications and Public Affairs Manager.
Former Government Advisor and Political Correspondent with the Sunday Business Post, Ms Connolly joins EM Ireland at a significant time in the organisation’s development.
“Niamh brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles which will make her a key member of our team at this important and challenging time”, said Noelle O Connell, Executive Director of EM Ireland.
Ms Connolly, who will take up her post at the beginning of March, was previously a Special Advisor to Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald TD in the Department of Justice and Equality. She also served as her Special Advisor in the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. Niamh has also worked as a Communications Advisor with the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC).
Prior to that, Ms Connolly worked as a senior journalist for 14 years at the Sunday Business Post, covering business, politics and current affairs. She graduated from University College Cork with a Masters of Social Science before going on to study journalism in the London College of Printing.
“EM Ireland is committed to promoting engagement and dialogue on Ireland’s relationships and priorities with all our European neighbours during the forthcoming Brexit negotiations and into the future. We are delighted to welcome someone of Niamh’s calibre to EM Ireland. After an overwhelming response to our recruitment process and a very competitive selection exercise, we look forward to Niamh’s contribution at this crucial time in Irish-EU relations”, concluded Ms O Connell.
