Brussels Wednesday Social
On 8 November 2017, METRO AG, the European Movement International, EuroCommerce and Handelsblatt GLOBAL organised the 8th Brussels Wednesday Social, this time featuring Janis A. Emmanouilidis, Director of Studies at the European Policy Center in Brussels.
Further speakers were Maria Heider, Director EU Affairs, Corporate Communications and Public Policy, METRO AG, and Christian Verschueren, Director-General, EuroCommerce. BBC Correspondent Joe Lynam moderated the discussion, including questions and remarks from the audience. The discussion was followed by a dinner reception.
Europe is facing a multitude of challenges such as Brexit, the rise of nationalism and new (extremist) parties, institutional reforms, the future of the euro, migration and digitisation – just to name a few. There is intense debate about the future of Europe and answers are needed.
This event was part of a series of events launched by the partners of the Wednesday Social in March 2017. The aim is to discuss new ideas and to foster debate on an innovative and sustainable vision for the European Union, involving stakeholders from civil society, political institutions and the business community. The next event of this series will take place in 2018.
