Launch event of the European human exposome network
The European human exposome network is composed of 9 research projects now funded under Horizon 2020, the EU framework programme for research and innovation. The event is an opportunity to learn more about the exposome concept and how the network aims at advancing our current approach to environment and health research and contributing to better healthcare and policymaking.

SOER 2020: Civil society’s role for a just (and fast) transition towards sustainability
The EESC Sustainable Development Observatory and the European Environment Agency will jointly host a public event aiming to engage a broad range of civil society organisations to examine the core messages of the SOER 2020 report and their implications for actions in support to ongoing policy processes, in particular those related to the European Green Deal; look at ways to boost the role of civil society for a just transition towards sustainability and to translate knowledge into action; discuss how to foster the engagement and active participation of all stakeholders, including youth, in accelerating the shift towards a more sustainable Europe.

The collaborative economy – data exchange with tax authorities
The EESC ECO Section is organizing a public hearing on “The collaborative economy – data exchange with tax authorities” to be held in Tallinn. This event contributes to the preparatory work for the opinion ECO-500.
Financing the Transition to a Low-Carbon Economy and the Challenges in Financing Climate Change Adaptation
The public hearing aims to engage a wide range of civil society organisations in order to find the optimal approach in remodelling the trend of investing financial resources in remedying climate change damages into a trend of investing in prevention and adapting to climate change measures instead.
6th meeting of the EU-Moldova Civil Society Platform
During the meeting, a debate will be held assessing the state of play of the implementation of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement. Social aspects of the implementation of the Association Agreement and Moldovan initiatives in justice sector and fighting corruption will be discussed. Platform members will also take stock of the Association Agenda EU-Moldova 2017-2019.

138th CoR Plenary Session – Inaugural Plenary 2020-2025 – Mandate VII
The February 2020 plenary session will be the inaugural session for the European Committee of the Regions’ seventh’ term of office and will be organised along different lines from an ordinary plenary session. At the beginning of a new mandate, all CoR members have to be appointed, and all organs, including the Bureau, the commissions, the working groups and the interregional groups have to be re-established. A new President, a new First vice-President and a new Bureau are elected by the members meeting in the first plenary session.

IG AFOLU, EGMIT, WPIEI Joint Meeting
Experts from EU member states will discuss topics related to agriculture, forestry and land use important for the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement. Topics will, among others, include the Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture, issues related to Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, and the Nairobi work program.

Thematic workshop on financial instruments supporting student loans
The event targets European Social Fund (ESF) managing authorities and other stakeholders who are interested in exploring the potential for supporting higher education through dedicated financial instruments. The student loans topic is increasingly gaining attention and interest by the ESF community, according to the findings of the recent fi-compass survey on financial instruments under ESF.

Investment and investment finance in Romania
At the event in Bucharest, the main results of the fourth vintage of the annual EIB Investment Survey (EIBIS) will be presented, which, together with the new edition of the EIB annual investment report “Accelerating Europe’s Transformation”, shed light on cyclical and structural dynamics behind investment and investment financing in Romania relative to Europe. Special attention will be dedicated to digitalisation, productivity gaps and energy efficiency.

Conference-debate on the theme “70 years of the Council of Europe: and now”
Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić will participate in an exchange of views on the theme “70 years of the Council of Europe: and now” with the Maison de l’Europe Strasbourg Alsace (MESA). The conference will be followed by a debate moderated by Ulrich Bohner, Honorary President of MESA.
11-13 February
European Prize for Eloquence
The School for Young Orators of the Strasbourg Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po), in co-operation with the Council of Europe, will host the sixth European Prize for Eloquence. The competition will bring together 12 candidates from university political science faculties from 10 countries. This annual competition aims to encourage the exchange of ideas, promote common European values and master rhetoric in French.
