What is the best way to inform young people about Europe?
School curricula and interactive modes of learning such as the European competition and other school contests can make the European project more tangible to students. However, in order to really enhance the “European experience” of students and to make them familiar with current European problems and challenges they need a truly European working tool. I.e. they require to be working and co-operating with schools in other European countries.
In order to help German pupils to really experience Europe and to not only learn about it in theory, the European Competition established a new online branch. This tool allows school classes from more than 40 European countries to collaborate online – via eTwinning.
eTwinning is the biggest online network for teachers in Europe with more than 200.000 teachers being registered. The platform is secure and easy to use: it provides a password-protected virtual ‘classroom’ (TwinSpace) in which school classes can communicate with each other, find partner schools abroad and develop creative material online.
This year, eTwinning makes its debut in the 61st round of the European Competition. "How do we want to live in Europe?” is the tag line for this year’s round. Teachers and pupils can submit works in four different subject areas of Germany’s oldest pupil’s competition – one for each age group. The best four projects will be awarded 1.000 Euro each. eTwinning projects for the European Competition can be submitted until 28 February 2014.
