EMI Network is Well Represented at EYCA Closing Conference

On 12-13 December the closing conference of the European Year of Citizens was held in Vilnius, Lithuania. The EMI network was well represented alongside attendees from European and national levels, with representatives from AEGEE-Europe, ALDA, ECAS, ESN, SOLIDAR, the European Movements of Austria, Denmark Finland, Italy, Latvia and Spain all participating. In addition EMI Secretary General Diogo Pinto represented the EMI Secretariat.

The Conference, entitled “How to make every year a year for citizens!” focused on bringing together the work of The European Year of Citizens Alliance (EYCA), undertaken this year, to enhance the participation and awareness of EU citizens in the EU decision-making process, and to develop a policy agenda for EU citizenship across European-level policies.

Alliance members from 62 networks of associations, non-governmental organisations, and coalitions worked together to create a set of key proposals for the reinforcement and enhancement of active citizenship in Europe, which you can find here: http://ey2013-alliance.eu/itsabouteuropeitsaboutus/

Civil society has a great role to play in the future of Europe. The EMI encourages all members to share this news and monitor the implementation of these recommendations throughout 2014, particularly as we head into this crucial year with European Parliament elections.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this success this year.
