European Parliament


Monday 5 October – Thursday 8 October

Plenary Session
The European Parliament will debate and vote on a number of issues, including the establishment of an EU mechanism on democracy, the rule of law and fundamental rights; The rule of law and fundamental rights in Bulgaria; Rule of law conditionality in the framework of the MFF negotiations; Economic policies of the euro area 2020; European Climate Law; the approval of Commission-designates Dombrovskis and Mcguinness; redundancies of workers in the EU following the economic fallout from the Covid-19 crisis; and the impact of Covid-19 outbreak on long-term care facilities.

European Council


Tuesday 6 October

EU-Ukraine Summit
Leaders will review bilateral relations, including: the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and EU support to Ukraine; the next steps in the implementation of the Association Agreement, including its Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area; the state of reforms in Ukraine. Leaders will also discuss the conflict in eastern Ukraine, recent developments in Belarus and further regional and foreign policy issues.

Council of Ministers


Monday 5 October

Eurogroup
The Eurogroup will adopt a work programme until June 2021. Ministers will also discuss priorities for the Eurogroup under its new Presidency and the candidacies that have been put forward to replace the outgoing member of the ECB’s executive board, Yves Mersch. The 7th enhanced surveillance report on Greece will be addressed by the Eurogroup.

Monday 5 October – Tuesday 6 October

Informal meeting Energy ministers
Ministers will discuss instruments to reach the EU’s 2030 energy and climate targets with his guests from Europe.

Thursday 8 October

Justice and Home Affairs Council
Home affairs ministers will exchange views on the new proposals for a pact on migration and asylum and discuss the development of a strategic European Police Partnership to strengthen police cooperation at EU level.

Monday 5 October

European Week of Regions and Cities
The European Commission, European Committee of the Regions, and EU regional and urban development offer to participants more than 500 digital working sessions to discover over 3 consecutive weeks in October.

Wojciechowski speaks during conference on the Green Deal and CAP
Commissioner on agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, delivers a keynote at the Interparliamentary Conference “The European Green Deal and CAP” organised by the Chairs of Committees on Environment, Energy, Transport and Agriculture from national parliaments and the European Parliament.

Tuesday 6 October

College meeting
On the provisional agenda of the meeting is the release of the EU Roma strategic framework for equality, inclusion and participation; the communication on an economic and investment plan for the Western Balkans; and, the Enlargement Package. Moreover, the European Fiscal Board expects to present its Annual Report.

Thursday 8 October – Friday 9 October

Borrell and Lenarčič visit Addis Ababa
High Representative of the EU, Josep Borrell, and Commissioner on Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, visit the capital of Ethiopia to handover Covid-19 medical equipment.

Wednesday 13 November 

Employment of persons with disabilities: how can we change society’s view
Perception, fear, myth and prejudice continue to limit the understanding and acceptance of disability in workplaces everywhere. Most of society still looks at persons with disabilities as unable to work and thinks that accommodating them in the workplace is expensive.The EESC is organising a public hearing with the aim to present programmes and projects that prove that these perceptions are incorrect.

Day of the Liberal Professions
This event aims to gain fresh insight into the impact of artificial intelligence on the exercise of professional services and on clients’ and patients’ rights.

Friday 9 October

Bureau meeting
On the agenda, among other things: Adopting implementing rules concerning Regulation on data protection, and Declaration on the situation in Moria.

Conference of President
On the agenda, among other things: COVID-19: Review of ongoing actions undertaken by the CoR and Guidelines on the budget 2022.

German Presidency


Monday 5 October

Conference on energy
The high-level conference on energy brings together high-level representatives of EU and EFTA countries, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and companies and associations from EU countries. The aim is to drive forward discussions on the development of an EU internal market for hydrogen, which also considers the global dimension. The potential for decarbonisation in the gas sector can also be discussed. More information can be found here.

Tuesday 6 October – Friday 9 October

Seminar on the legal framework of defence related EU policymaking
This seminar on EU law is hosted in cooperation with the Helmut Schmidt University and the European Security and Defence College (ESDC). It is organised under the auspices of the German Presidency of the Council of the EU. It aims to provide legal practitioners from EU Member States and EU institutions, bodies and agencies who deal with security and defence-related matters with a common knowledge base for their work. Furthermore, the seminar will facilitate an exchange of views on the interpretation and application of EU law. More information can be found here.

European Ombudsman


Wednesday 7 October

Exhibition 25 years of the European Ombudsman
The physical exhibition 25 years of the European Ombudsman will be set up in the grids of the Hôtel de Ville (place Broglie) in Strasbourg from 6 October to 5 November. Strasbourg´s mayor, Jeanne Barseghian, and the European Ombudsman, Emily O’Reilly, have both confirmed attendance to a covid-mode opening on Wednesday 7th October.

National Elections

Austrian regional elections
The 2020 Viennese state election will be held.

Lithuanian parliamentary elections
Parliamentary elections will be held in Lithuania to elect the 141 members of the Seimas.
