Tripartite Social Summit
Discussions will focus on the following topics: Resilience and Recovery Facility, EU’s recovery funds in light of the EU 2030 climate target and SMEs, and Next Generation EU.

Thursday 15 October – Friday 16 October

European Council
The following topics will be discussed during the European Council: the implementation of the withdrawal agreement and the state of the negotiations on the future EU-UK partnership; the progress made towards delivering the EU’s objective of climate neutrality by 2050; and, EU-Africa relations.

Foreign Affairs Council (FAC)
The meeting, chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, will review recent developments and debate issues related to the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, Russia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. More information can be found here.

Tuesday 13 October

General Affairs Council (GAC)
The Council will discuss the state of play in the EU-UK negotiations, the upcoming European Council of 15-16 October, and the annual rule of law dialogue. The Conference on the Future of Europe will also be addressed during the meeting.

Employment, social affairs, and equality ministers videoconference
On the agenda are worker participation and support for workers in restructuring, and the equal participation of women and men in the labour market.

Monday 12 October – Wednesday 14 October

Outermost regions forum 2020: Together for a sustainable future
This high-level event is organised by the European Commission – Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy. It will bring together the nine outermost regions of the EU, their Member States, the EU institutions, civil society and experts interested in learning from the experience of these special EU regions. The Forum will take stock of the unprecedented challenging situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and its strong socio-economic impacts on the outermost regions, and discuss recovery solutions for a targeted response to the crisis. In line with the European Green Deal, the Forum will focus in particular on climate change, circular economy and blue economy as key areas for these regions’ recovery. Wednesday 14 October

College meeting
On the agenda are, among other things, the Communication on lifting barriers to investment for a successful recovery; Renovation wave; 8th Environmental action programme; Methane strategy; and the Chemicals strategy for sustainability.

The European Natura 2000 Award recognises the time, dedication and efforts Europeans invest in nature protection and showcases the role Natura 2000 plays in safeguarding our natural heritage and promoting social and economic wellbeing. More information can be found here.

Farm 2 Fork 2020 conference
The ‘Farm to Fork’ conference, scheduled on 15 and 16 October 2020 (World Food Day), is the first in what will be an annual gathering of European stakeholders willing to engage and help shape the EU’s path towards sustainable food systems. More information on the event can be found here.

German Presidency


Monday 12 October

Digital Conference: EU Roma Strategic Framework
The German Presidency of the Council of the EU and the European Commission will organise together a Digital High-Level-Conference launching the new “EU Roma Strategic Framework for Equality, Inclusion and Participation until 2030”. The Online-Event will be devoted to the presentation and discussion of this new initiative of the European Commission and a proposal for a revised Council Recommendation on Roma equality, inclusion and participation. Tuesday 13 October

Conference: Europe Unite against Cancer
On 13 October, a high-level conference will be held with the research ministers of the Trio Presidency. The aim is to adopt a joint declaration on cancer research that will generate an atmosphere of positive change for the Trio Presidency to sustain the topic of cancer research in the two successor presidencies.
