Cooperation between EMI and the European Parliament
At a meeting on 10th April, EMI President Jo Leinen and EP President Martin Schulz agreed on a close cooperation between the European Movement International (EMI) and the European Parliament (EP).
The strengthening of the North-South dialogue after the Arab Spring will require efforts to develop democracy and citizenship. The EMI is ready to engage in a dialogue with the civil societies south of the Mediterranean. Jo Leinen and Martin Schulz agreed that strong ties between the EU and its southern neighbours must be a priority for the years to come.
For the next European Elections in 2014, the EP and the EMI will work together to engage citizens in the elections. The goal must be to increase the participation in European Elections.
On 5th June, the EMI will organise a discussion with Martin Schulz on the new role of the European Parliament after the Lisbon Treaty. All friends of EMI will be invited.
