EM Serbia – Serbia gets deserved Candidate Status
European Movement in Serbia (EMinS) has a great pleasure to congratulate the citizens of Serbia on being granted candidate status for membership in the European Union (EU), which is one more step, and a necessary and important one in the process of European integration of the country.
The positive decision of the European Council opened a new chapter of relations of the EU with Serbia by which the EU has made a very significant incentive to advancement of the reform process, and the citizens of Serbia and the Western Balkans were shown that the enlargement process, despite the economic crisis and the current developments in the EU, still remains an ongoing process.
Serbia has made great efforts to meet the criteria set in the conclusions of the European Council in December 2011. In the future we expect a very efficient and dedicated work of state institutions on resolving the remaining issues and getting the starting date of talks on membership of Serbia in the EU. Only by starting accession talks we will be able to take advantage of development opportunities provided by the candidate status and the process of European integration.
The road to membership of Serbia in the EU requires increased intensity of work and enthusiasm of all structures in the society, because true implementation of reforms is the only thing that can lead to modernization of the state and can provide better quality of life for citizens of Serbia.
Serbia’s membership in the EU, as a priority and strategic orientation of the country, will depend solely on the progress made in future negotiations and consolidation of political democracy, the rule of law and a functioning market economy, while the responsibility for achieving this goal is on all relevant social factors, particularly political ones.
