EM Italy – Italian Chamber of Deputies supports unanimously key points of the Italian European Movement Policy Platform
The Italian Chamber of Deputies has unanimously approved a significant resolution, based on the reports of the Work Programme of the European Commission, the common programme of the next Presidential Council term (Poland, Denmark, and Cyprus) as well as the programmatic statement on the participation of Italy to the EU for the year 2011.
Some of the main points of the CIME policy strategy presented in February with the document "Towards 2014" and in May with the MED-EU Report (both available on www.movimentoeuropeo.it) have been mentioned in this document.
In particular, the following parts were taken:
- The need to amend the Treaty of Lisbon through the convening of a new "Convention"
- The creation of a true "economic government" of the EuroZone, based however on procedures that comply with the Community method.
- The approval of a future financial framework with a volume of budget that allows to effectively achieve the objectives set at European level.
- The need to launch a project for a new community between the EU and southern Mediterranean countries based on common institutions inspired by the experience of ECCS.
The commitment of the Vice President of the CIME, Hon. Sandro Gozi, has been essential as he said, during the voting Declaration: "Italy must return to play its historic role in Europe: it should be back fighting for the European Federation for the United States of Europe. (…) And there is a great need of an Italian Europeanism blocked by fear and national egoism. It is urgent by now to create a genuine "European economic government" (…) it means for us a government policy and an European democracy: a government that decides by majority vote under parliamentary control (…) The policy can not retreat while facing new challenges and must assume its responsibilities. Markets can probably run away in front of the moral gambling but policy can not! It can’t just increasingly look at the public opinion but it shall also try to persuade and to change the public opinion. The small European leaders should start telling the truth to the citizens! Without an European political federation, the Euro has no future. Without the Euro, which is an experiment that may succeed or fail, Europe will come to the end. (…) It’s only with a different European politics and with more supranational democracy that we can succeed in the challenge!"
The stance of the Italian Chamber occurs in the framework of a series of important statements in favor of the United States of Europe, a prospect that the Italian Council of the European Movement intends to put on the agenda of the Federal Assembly of the International European Movement, which will meet in Warsaw at the end of November.
