The drought prevailing in the Horn of Africa is creating a humanitarian disaster requiring massive, urgent international aid.

The PES believes it is essential for Europe to take appropriate action and intervene without delay in order to support and help local populations in their efforts to survive this humanitarian crisis. Assistance of this nature accompanies consecutive implementation of procedures to ensure follow-up and receipt of aid from the international community, as well as equitable distribution of such aid across the region.

Philip Cordery stated: “The EU cannot stand by as a spectator of such a drama in 2011. Where human life is in peril, a collective awareness is needed to take stock of the most serious humanitarian crisis facing the world today.”
