Eurozone: “agreed package comprehensive, credible; leaves no room for misinterpretation for the markets” says EPP President

The President of the European People’s Party (EPP), Wilfried Martens, has welcomed the outcome of yesterday’s Eurozone Summit:

"The agreed package at the euro area Summit is comprehensive and credible, and leaves no room for misinterpretation for the markets. I also welcome the engagement of many important stakeholders which will contribute to the implementation of the package and help bolster financial stability and growth in the eurozone," President Martens underlined.

"The supplementary programme for Greece was necessary under these exceptional circumstances, but this time it is accompanied by a series of long-term safeguards as well as additional measures to stimulate competitiveness and growth. Furthermore, the eurozone will benefit significantly from the agreed stabilization tools, from the drive to fiscal consolidation, and from the implementation of the economic governance instruments in the coming months," the EPP President stressed.

"Needless to say, the EPP will do its outmost to ensure the successful implementation of the agreed package and to secure the long-term sustainability of the euro," Wilfried Martens concluded.
