“EP-reporter in dialogue” sets a European benchmark – the joint series of events of EM Germany and European Parliament will be launched on 11 April 2011

In close cooperation with the Information Office of the European Parliament, the European Movement Germany will bring together MEPs and representatives of the civil society. The concept of these events will be to debate about current legislative initiatives.
The first "EP-reporter in dialogue" will be Dr. Werner Langen on 11 April 2011. The CDU representative is rapporteur on the proposal for a regulation of OTC derivatives, central counterparties and transaction registers.

"With EP-reporter in dialogue we will create for the first time a regular pan-European exchange of ideas between MEPs and groups of interests" outlined EM Germany’s Secretary General Bernd Hüttemann enthusiastically when making public the cooperation with the Information Office of the European Parliament. "Now the European Movement Germany can offer information exchanges about all EU-institutions which are concerned with the EU´s legislative process."

Starting this series, Dr. Werner Langen will give us an overview of the current parliamentary debates on the stabilization of the financial system. With the financial crisis, “over the counter”-derivatives have become the center of the regulatory authorities’ interest. In its proposal for a regulation of OTC derivatives which has been published in September 2010, the European Commission gave proposals of how to minimize the risks which OTC derivatives hold. Langen will present his draft report on the Commission’s proposal on 20 April 2011 to the Economic Committee of the European Parliament. Nine days earlier, he will be answering the questions of representatives of groups of interests and interested people in Berlin.

With its new type of event, EM Germany fulfills the wishes of its board of members which asked for a dialogue with the citizens’ Chamber of the EU – the European Parliament.
