Invitation: EMI Congress in Istanbul – “Civil Society Organisations challenge public authorities: From political commitment to active dialogue”, 11-12 February 2011

Following the success of the Congress of Ljubljana, the European Movement International (EMI), in cooperation with the Third Sector Foundation of Turkey (TUSEV), will organise a second congress on civil society dialogue in candidate and potential candidate countries.

The congress on the theme “CSOs challenge public authorities: From political commitment to active dialogue” will take place in Istanbul on 11-12 February 2011.

Bringing together members from the civil society sector and representatives from both National Parliaments and Governments of candidate and potential candidate countries and the European Union, the Istanbul Congress will be a crucial opportunity to discuss and debate on how to best improve the dialogue between civil society and public authorities.

During several workshops of the 2-day congress, participants will have the possibility to share best practices and bring forward their own particular concerns in order to find sustainable solutions, applicable to the participating countries.

The conclusions of the workshops shall lead to a “political strategy”, providing recommendations to public authorities and addressing CSOs’ claims for support and enhanced dialogue at the highest level.
