EM Germany – EU De-Briefing on European Council analyses the resolutions for the stabilisation of the Euro

One year after the coming into force of the Treaty of Lisbon, the introduction of a European mechanism of stability is settled. This was the highlight of the latest European Council as well as the highlight of the latest EU-De-Briefing organised by EM Germany, the German Foreign office, the ministry for Economy and Technology and the Representation of the European Commission in Berlin. About 50 representatives and stakeholders from a wide range of organisations attended the meeting.
Dr Peter Schoof, Head of the European Union Department at the German Foreign Office underlined that a step has been made with the modification of the Lisbon treaty to establish a clear basis for a stability mechanism for the Euro. Moreover the European Strategy 2020 with the European semester enables the European Commission to get a comparative overview on the current national plans of reforms and on the implementation of the European initiatives, explained Claudia Dörr, Head of the European Service of the Ministry of Economy and Technology.
The draft agreement on the European mechanism of stability will probably be adopted during the European Summit of April. Until then the European Finance Ministers have a lot of work to do, said Barbara Steffner, Head of the political service of the representation of the European Union.
The first EU-De-Briefing on European Council of the year 2011 (February 7th, 2011) will probably give more information on what the future will bring for the economic situation of the European Union.
