This new series of online events aims to discuss the EU’s work and how it affects all Europeans. Special Committee on Beating Cancer (BECA)
Debates: The day after the EU’s first Beating Cancer Plan is unveiled, a discussion will take place on the plan together with Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides; In a public hearing, experts will also inform MEPs about the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on health systems and cancer treatments. In addition, the hearing will cover the issues of antimicrobial resistance and the potential use of mRNA technology to help treat cancer .

Borrell visits Russia
Josep Borrell, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, meets with Sergei Lavrov, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Russia, and holds a joint press point. Moreover, Borrell will also meet with representatives of Russian civil society organisations and members of the academic community.

Monday 1 February

ENVE Commission Meeting
A debate on, among other things, the Environmental Action Programme and on the Renovation Wave for Europe are planned during this ENVE Commission meeting.

Tuesday 2 February

Conference of Presidents
Several topics are up for discussion during this Conference of Presidents, including a discussion on the Conference on the future of Europe, on 2021 Strategy, and on a report on the political impact of the CoR activities.

Bureau Meeting
This meeting will prepare for the CoR plenary session planned for Wednesday 3 until Friday 5 February. Moreover, a debate on the MFF and Recovery plan is planned. Also, there will be a vote on a new Directorate for Legislative Work.

Wednesday 3 – Friday 5 February

Plenary Session
During this 142nd plenary session of the Committee of the Regions, there will be several debates, including on the recovery of the cultural and creative sectors, on the new European research area, and on the COVID-19 pandemic vaccination campaign. Moreover, there will be several votes on amendments to opinions.
