EM Germany – 9 May 2010 celebrations in Berlin

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the Young European Movement in Germany (JEB) has organized a series of events which began in March and will continue until the 9th of May.

Debating Europe

Europe is not a distant and nebulous concept. European events and celebrations do not always have to take place only in the German capital city. In fact, JEB has planned to visit a local school in Brandenburg this year. JEB wants to make pupils realize that Europe is not that complicated and is complementary to their German identity. For that purpose, trained youth counsellors of the JEB will initiate a debate about certain key topics regarding the construction of Europe and European identity. In order to bring Schuman’s and Monnet’s ideas closer to the young people, a thematic focus will be put on the Schuman Declaration and its relevance in today’s and future Europe.

Exploring Europe in Berlin

A rally ‘RallyEuropa’ around Berlin will be organized by the JEB. Berlin is the German capital but also a major European metropolis with various political, economic, cultural, and social European venues to visit. The rally is the chance for Berliners and non-Berliners to get a better insight into the importance of Europe for Berlin city life and vice versa. The rally will also lead the participants to “hidden” sites related to the EU…
Whilst the RallyEuropa handout gives basic information on the EU and the places to visit, it also seeks to stimulate the participants’ own reflection about European history, politics and its manifestations in the city and to encourage a creative approach to and documentation of the visited venues (with videos, pictures, performances etc…)

Special JEBz edition

JEBz May 2010 edition – the web and printed magazine founded by JEB – will focus on the 60th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. JEBz has always aimed at being a platform of exchange of opinions and ideas on the topics the magazine looks into. This edition will then seek to engage people to share their thoughts on the Schuman Declaration and what it means in today’s Europe.

Happy birthday, Europe!

On 8th of May at night, the JEB and other young people from Berlin and Brandenburg will celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Schuman Declaration with a birthday cake and have planned a party in a club in Berlin.
