After Slovenia, Slovakia and Romania the annual trip of the EM France Yvelines section from 10 until 18 of October was to Bulgaria.

This restless transition, not yet completed, is characterizesd by remarkable progress but also by some drawbacks. Nevertheless, the weariness and disillusion of those still having very poor living conditions, one can notice a strong determination to move ahead, to reject the well-known bad practices which still hinder a sustained development, the only way for Bulgaria to reach European ec onomical standards. This has clearly appeared during our various meetings at the French Embassy (the Ambassador was in Paris accomanying the new Bulgarian Prime Minister) (with Mr. Cyrille Baumgartner, First Counsellor), at the national Parliament (Mr. Angel Tcholakov, Counsellor for European affairs of the PM, Prof. Mihail Nikolovski, Deputy GERB, and Mrs. Koreva, Deputy GERB, all speaking fluently french), with the European Movement Bulgaria, with local representatives or with the Alliance Française in Varna.

During a luncheon in the countryside – in a musical and heartily atmosphere – we met some members of the EM Bulgaria, to start with its Secretary general Velko Ivanov and Svetoslov Spassov, Counsellor for defense to the PM. Many thanks to Velko for having arranged so many instructive meetings for us.

With good reasons Bulgaria is proud of its long history and of its inheritance. Deeply included in the Balkan area, Thraces, Greeks, Romans, then three Bulgarian kingdoms interrupted by manu centuries of Byzantine and Turkish dominations have bequeathed to this country extraordinary archeological and historical treasures that we had the opportunity to discover during our trip, full of cultural aspects.
