European Movement International
Tuesday 4 May
Talking Europe with Raffaele Mauro Petriccione
Talking Europe organised is organise by the European Movement International in partnership with the European Commission and aims to discuss the EU’s work and how it affects all Europeans. This seventh edition will feature Raffaele Mauro Petriccione, Director General of DG CLIMA, and will discuss the measures included in the Recovery Plan that will ensure the effective implementation of the European Green Deal and boost the Green Recovery providing a pathway to fight climate change.

Nanotechnology Forum – EuroNanoForum 2021
The EuroNanoForum 2021 will look at the role of the Nano-industry on the road to a greener, more resilient Europe. This digital conference will bring together experts from different sectors to identify priorities, share views on technical, industrial and social challenges and define the extent to which nanotechnology and advanced materials will play a part in the solutions Europe needs.
Friday 7 – Saturday 8 May
Porto Social Summit
The Porto Social Summit will give political impetus to the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights and its Action Plan, underlining its central role in the European recovery and the adaptation to the climate, digital and demographic transitions. It will also provide an opportunity to reinforce dialogue with social partners and with citizens.

Council of Ministers
Thursday 6 May
Foreign Affairs Council
EU ministers of foreign affairs will be briefed by the High Representative, Josep Borrell, about current affairs, thereby reviewing a number of recent developments and upcoming events, including on Sahel, Ukraine, Mozambique and Operation IRINI. The Council will then exchange views on the strategic compass, with a focus on crisis management. Ministers will also exchange views with the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The college will meet to discuss proposals for regulation on distortive foreign subsidies, regulation on the the emergency use authorisation of medicinal products for human use, updating the new industrial strategy for Europe and EU Strategy on COVID-19 therapeutics.

Thursday 6 May
Conference on the review of the non-financial reporting directive (NFRD)
This online conference is an opportunity for interested parties to find out more about the key issues and the objectives of the proposal and of its concrete implications. It will alternate between panels and keynote speeches from European and international leaders in the field of sustainable finance, including Commissioner McGuinness. The panels will address, among other topics, the role of sustainability reporting standards in promoting better sustainability disclosures from companies.

Pay transparency – The next step to end the gender pay gap
This hearing will discuss the Commission’s proposal in March 2021 of new pay transparency measures, such as pay information for job seekers, a right to know the pay levels for workers doing the same work, as well as gender pay gap reporting obligations for big companies.

The Members of the European Committee of the Regions will meet remotely for the 144th plenary session from 5 – 7 May. The session will include statements from António Costa, Prime Minister of Portugal, David Sassoli, President of The European Parliament and others with a focus on equal opportunities, the Green Deal and the Future of Europe.

European Cancer Research Summit 2021
This European Summit is an initiative by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES), in association with the Health Ministry. The current Trio of Presidencies, signed a joint declaration in the cancer research area on the occasion of the conference held on 13 October 2020, while also adopting Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.

International Conference on Death Penalty
This online conference aims to ensure that this subject matter remains on national and multilateral agendas and to promote the strategic priorities and initiatives of the EU, the OSCE/Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the Council of Europe.

HepHIV2021 Conference
This conference titled “Progress and implementation of integrated testing, new technologies and approaches”, will bring together stakeholders from all levels of the health system, to present and discuss new technologies and approaches for integrated testing and linkage to care for HIV, viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and tuberculosis (TB).
“A Sea of Equality” Conference
This conference will address the importance of strengthening the role played by women in the maritime sector, and to give Portugal and other European Union Member States the opportunity to share their experiences. This conference is aligned with the EU Council’s Conclusions on a sustainable blue economy agenda, in which the need to create access opportunities for women in maritime activities is stressed.

Financing the green transition in times of COVID-19
This online event, hosted by the European Investment Bank and the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority will discuss the transition to a sustainable, green economy. This event will discuss the challenges the financial sector faces and will focus on the green transition and the interaction between the non-financial and financial sector.
