European Citizens Consultations on EU judged a success
Euronews broadcasts ECC report on TV and at http://www.euronews.net
The TV channel Euronews will broadcast a report on the European Citizens Consultations (ECC) throughout this week within the magazine F.A.Q. and follow up on the outcome of the ECC debates where during three weekends in March, some 1,500 randomly selected citizens were asked to discuss their ideas at national consultations in each EU Member State and agreed on ten recommendations for action at European level. The process will culminate in a European Citizens Summit on the 11 of May in Brussels, when the results of these deliberations will be handed to – and discussed with – policy-makers in Brussels, including the Presidents of the European Commission, Council and Parliament.
So far European citizens called for tougher supervision of the financial markets, more focused spending on research and innovation, and greater investment in sustainable energy in a unique pan-European debate on the EU’s economic and social future.
