Campaign against youth abstention at EP elections
Cooperation between the European Commission and MTV in the framework of the 2009 European Parliament elections http://www.caneuhearme.eu
The European Movement is in favor of initiatives that encourage young voters to participate in the 2009 European Parliament elections. The European Commission and the MTV Channel will run a campaign that will focus on getting the youth involved in the next European elections and convince them that their vote counts. This seems to be necessary to avoid the same turnout of the last European elections where just 18 percent of the young people (between 18 and 25 years old) made use of their voting rights.
The MTV campaign will have 2 phases. The first phase will encourage the youth to draw more attention to the EP elections and the second phase shall persuade to vote.
Therefore MTV will broadcast various commercials through Europe with the intention to raise curiosity on the campaign slogan “Can you hear me?”. The spots will encourage the young voters to shout out all together the slogan “Can you hear me?” on the 30th of April 2009 at 15.30 CET to be part of the biggest sound wave and to metaphorically make their voices heard with MTV.
More information on the campaign can be found at www.caneuhearme.eu. The campaign is supported by artists such as Depeche Mode or Tiziano Ferro.
