EM in Sweden inaugurated on 17th of March 2009

The European Movement International (EMI) is pleased to announce that on 17th of March a new section in Sweden was inaugurated. About 40 people came to the first meeting of the EM in Sweden. The EM in Sweden will especially focus on the cooperation with embassies as also EU-institutions offices and in terms of content concentrate on the concept of the people and Europe. There are already well funded and well organized actions advocating closer integration and covering the agenda of Europe an Summits in Sweden. Nevertheless there is a lack of actions related to free movement, cultural identity and solidarity. The EM Sweden senses that without a common culture and deeper popular consensus, they will not have the backbone for a closer political cooperation.

With these perspectives the main actions of the EM Sweden during autumn will be to organize a series of seminars about European culture and identity. The embassies of Germany, Italy, Finland and Turkey have so far shown interest in potential cooperation.

The EM in Sweden will participate in this years 9th of May activities and there first event will take place on the 22nd of April. The debate on “Sweden and integration” with Polish author Andrzej Olkiewicz will take place in the European House in Stockholm (EP and CEC premises). A website is planned to be launched any time soon.
The EMI wishes the EM in Sweden all the best and success for their activities.
