Celebration of the EM’s 60th anniversary and ELEC Central Council’s meeting
On May 23-24, ELEC President and Secretary General were in The Hague to celebrate with their friends of the European Movement the 60th anniversary of its foundation. It was indeed created in 1948 by a number of European personalities and organizations, among others ELEC, which already existed. This time ELEC was able to contribute to the intellectual animation of the gathering, as its Secretary General was one of the two experts appointed by EMI for a preliminary examination of the ideas that had been submitted on EMI’s blog and were discussed in the economic and social workshop.
ELEC’s “enlarged” Central Council met in Berlin on June 5-7, hosted by the German section. Participants were given the opportunity to discuss the latest EU enlargements with the help of three experts, among whom Elmar Brok, who was the principal rapporteur on enlargement to the European Parliament from 1999 to 2004.
