The European Movement International, together with European Movement Germany and the media partner EurActiv, is organising the first International EU Presidencies Briefing for stakeholders in Berlin on the 29th June 2007. The Briefing will be followed by the Federal Council meeting of the European Movement. Registration for the event is obligatory.

The International EU Presidencies Briefing is a unique event that will focus on the German, Portuguese and Slovenian presidencies of the European Union. Member State Governments and European Commission will then present their political agenda and respond to questions and comments from numerous national and European stakeholders.

As part of the Briefing, EurActiv and EM will present the stakeholders’ evaluation of the German EU Presidency and their expectations for the forthcoming Presidencies. This will be prepared on the basis of the submission of individual stakeholders prior to the event and will help structure the discussion.

We will be joined by the following representatives of national governments:

– Peter Tempel, Director General European Policy, Federal Foreign Office, Germany

– Claudia Dörr, Director General European Policy, Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, Germany

– H.E. Fernando D’Oliveira Neves, Secretary General, Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Portugal

– Zivana Mejac, Director of Directorate for Coordination, Government Office for European Affairs, Slovenia

– Matej Marn, Head of EU Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Slovenia

We will also be joined by Dr. Gerhard Sabathil, Head of the European Commission Representation in Germany.

The format of Briefings follows the “Chatham house rule”.
