Talking Europe with Monique Pariat, Director General of DG HOME
On Tuesday, 9 November from 11:00-12:00 CET, the ninth edition of Talking Europe organised in partnership with the European Commission, will feature Monique Pariat, Director General of DG HOME. This series of online events launched in 2020 aims to discuss the EU’s work and how it affects all Europeans. Our guest, Monique Pariat, Director General of DG HOME, will discuss the recent work of DG HOME, including the recent developments in the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, the Schengen Area, migration and integration.

Annual Budget Conference 2021 – The EU budget and NGEU: fireworks or big bang?
To take stock of the ongoing reflection and shape the future debate, the European Commission is hosting the conference “The EU budget and NextGenerationEU: fireworks or big bang?”. It will bring together policy-makers, research organisations, capital market participants and citizens in a lively online discussion on: How fit is the EU budget to address the challenges ahead of the EU; NextGenerationEU as a game changer on the capital markets – making it happen; New revenue to the EU budget – why does it matter; Bringing policy ambition at the heart of the EU budget – how to make the green and digital transitions happen.

Commissioner Frans Timmermans will be at the COP26 in Glasgow, United Kingdom, to lead high-level negotiations on climate change until 12/11.

Low voltage direct current and direct current technologies: potential applications for a clean energy transition
The Commission will hold a webinar on low voltage direct current (LVDC) and direct current (DC) technologies for interested energy stakeholders (electricity companies, regulators, industries, building companies, academia and others). The webinar aims to: take stock of the actual technological development on LVDC and the related applications in different areas; highlight the potentialities of applying LVDC technologies in any suited area of the actual electricity grid (industries, in homes, EV charging, etc.) as a valid contribution to the clean energy transition; identify the barriers (technical, regulatory, standardisation) for further development; collect input/recommendations for further actions.

EU Arctic forum and Arctic indigenous peoples’ dialogue
The European Commission and the European External Action Service (EEAS) are organising a high-level EU Arctic forum and the annual Arctic indigenous peoples’ dialogue in Brussels. Commission High Representative Josep Borrell and European Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius will host the events. The EU Arctic Forum will bring together key Arctic players and stakeholders to assess recent developments in the region and discuss challenges ahead. The event will provide a strategic outlook for the updated EU Arctic policy and delve into topics that are of particular significance for the Arctic’s inhabitants.

This meeting will give the EU DAG the opportunity to receive an update from DG Trade on the implementation of the TSD chapter as well as an overview of the current trade relations between the EU and Singapore.

Youth and decision-makers discuss nature, energy, water and sustainability in the global economy
This event will be held in the context of the COP26 and will feature an intergenerational and international discussion on critical areas for climate and social justice: nature and sustainable business, energy transition, water management and sustainability in the global economy.

Green Transition in the Region of Attica
The Region of Attica is in the middle of a huge effort to shift from traditional waste management practices to the circular economy framework. The session will discuss the drivers and the barriers for this shift, the experiences gained as well as lessons learnt from national and European utilisation. The event will include a presentation of a video including the activities and good practices of the Region of Attica in terms of Circular Economy and Green Transition.

Cross-border EU citizens’ dialogue Stuttgart and Strasbourg
Building up on the strong, long-term history of almost 60 years of Strasbourg and Stuttgart being twin-cities, the local politicians intend to give voice for their local citizens during the upcoming cross-border citizens dialogue scheduled for 10 November. The citizen panels will actively elaborate on issues related to ecology and economics and seek to have answers for our role, expectations and proposals as European consumers.

Green Deal Going G-Local: a discussion on the COP26 outcomes
On 12 November 2021, from 10:00 a.m., the European Committee of the Regions – in cooperation with other subnational governments and networks/organisations of cities and regions – will organize a virtual discussion about the major outcomes of the UNFCCC COP26. A discussion on the achievements obtained by subnational governments in the COP26, and a reflection on how could the European Green Deal implementation at the local level become the blueprint for subnational governments around the globe to be part of the green recovery and resilience post-COVID19 crisis.

Preliminary Roma survey results to be presented
The Roma Survey 2020 collected comparable data in eight selected Member States (Croatia, Czechia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Spain) and two accession countries (North Macedonia and Serbia). Roma was asked a wide range of questions about their everyday life, including their socio-economic situation and their experiences of discrimination, harassment and violence.

Gender-smart climate finance: unlocking an inclusive and sustainable future
During this hybrid event, the EIB will launch the Gender Lens Climate Financing Investing Guide by the 2X Gender and Climate Finance Taskforce. The taskforce is an initiative powered by the European Investment Bank, CDC Group, the UK’s development finance institution, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to leverage the power of gender-smart investments for climate action.
