Investing in the Future of Europe: EU’s Action in the Post-COP Context
The COP26 was the opportunity to build bridges and commit to tangible actions towards a transition to a green economy. This event will be the opportunity to discuss how the EU can deliver on those commitments, through existing initiatives and joint efforts from partners and private sector, so that Europe can play its part in mitigating climate change. To discuss the post-COP landscape and the European Union’s commitments, the European Movement International, in partnership with the European Investment Bank, has organised an Investing in the Future of Europe event entitled EU’s Action in the Post-COP Context. The panel will feature: Raffaele Mauro Petriccione, Director General of DG CLIMA, Eila Kreivi, Director and Head of the Capital Markets Department, European Investment Bank, Barbara Mariani, Policy Manager for Climate, European Environmental Bureau.

This webinar will concentrate on the relevance of the main clean energy sources and the impact of the current transition to a carbon-neutral economy on the markets and on society. The discussion will also cover the following issues: The expected energy mix on the way to a carbon-neutral economy; The role of civil society in the energy transformation, within the framework of the Energy Union; Synergies between the promotion of energy from renewable sources, the social transition and industry policies; How to plan a transformation: the case of energy infrastructure; Industrial emissions and the role of the accelerating investments in renewables.

Online: Stakeholders’ Consultation on Revision of the LULUCF and Effort Sharing Regulations
The European Committee of the Regions is preparing an Opinion on the Revision of the LULUCF and Effort Sharing Regulations. The CoR Rapporteur is Ms Åsa Ågren Wikström, Member of Västerbotten County Council and Member of the CoR. The Rapporteur will prepare a draft opinion that will be discussed and voted at the meeting of 10-11 of March 2022 of the Commission for the Environment, Climate change and Energy (ENVE) of the CoR. The opinion deals with two legislative proposals, presented as part of the Fit for 55 Package, in the framework of the European Green Deal.

For a Europe of citizens – Dialogue with citizens from Brno, Leipzig and Stuttgart
The joint online citizens’ dialogue programme includes a one-and-a-half-hour workshop phase, as well as a subsequent discussion with politicians. As a kick-off event in the European Year of Youth 2022, citizens of all ages from Brno, Leipzig, Stuttgart and beyond, to talk about the topics of education, culture, youth and sport, to exchange experiences and to jointly develop ideas for the future. After the group discussions, the ideas will be presented to politicians from the three cities in a plenary session. At the European level, the ideas generated will be published on the Future of Europe Conference platform, where they can be read and supported by citizens across Europe and brought directly to decision-makers in the EU.

Connected Border Regions – Impacts and Challenges of the Pandemic
The focus of this talk is the issue of cross-border mobility, especially regarding the pandemic and its impact on the lives of citizens. We will cover and examine various aspects of daily life – from commuting and working in the border regions to leisure activities and health care needs. Citizens were invited to complete an online questionnaire on the above-mentioned topics. Based on these results the following participants, Deputy District Governor Pavel Hroch from South Bohemia (CZ), Member of the government of Lower Austria Martin Eichtinger (AT) and District President Franz Löffler from the Upper Palatinate (DE) will discuss the outcomes as well as the different perspectives and viewpoints of the regions.

European Humanitarian Forum
The first European Humanitarian Forum, co-chaired by France and the European Commission, aims to mobilize the European Union, the 27 Member States and like-minded States to address the main humanitarian challenges. It will take place in Brussels. Participants will include United Nations humanitarian agencies, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and prominent figures from civil society.

Debates on combating rising hate against LGBTI people in Europe and on alleged violations of their rights in the Southern Caucasus, on business and values in football governance on the poisoning of Alexei Navalny, and on the role of the media in times of crisis. Also on the agenda are debates on the EU pact on migration and asylum seen from a human rights perspective, children’s right to be heard in a democracy and on climate change, enforced disappearances on Council of Europe territory, and the functioning of democratic institutions in Armenia. It will be held in a hybrid format.
