Brussels, 27th October: The European Movement International welcomes the outcome of yesterday’s Parliamentary elections in Ukraine. The victory of pro-European parties on 26 October 2014 signifies another positive step along the path towards EU integration for Ukraine.

The overall turnout reached 52%, with over 70% in Western Ukraine. Despite voters in Crimea, Donetsk and Lugansk not being allowed to cast their ballot, the European Movement International remains confident Ukraine has a European future and that it will see a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.

Jo Leinen MEP, President of the European Movement International said, “The majority of Parliamentary seats won by the Europe-oriented Coalition is a positive sign for the future of Ukraine’s politics, and gives a clear signal from Ukrainian citizens about their wish to establish close ties with the European Union”.
