SOLIDAR Weekly round up special: The upcoming Silver Rose Awards ceremony
CELEBRATING THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIAL JUSTICE
Since the year 2000 the SOLIDAR Silver Rose Awards have been an annually returning ceremony that is dedicated to celebrate individuals and organizations whose extraordinary struggles contribute to social justice and solidarity in Europe and worldwordwide.
Winners are sometimes well-known; others are simply ordinary people leading extraordinary lives, reaching out to the most vulnerable groups in their societies, advocating for their rights, campaigning for their needs, and providing essential services such as soup kitchens, housing, children’s holidays and literacy classes. As SOLIDAR member organisations work both in Europe and around the world, examples of worthy recipients are not difficult to identify.
Previous award winners include Aminatou Haidar, Western Sahara human rights defender; Labour Education Foundation in Pakistan and Robert Badinter from France. Here you can find the full list of winners.
This year SOLIDAR is organising its 13th edition of the ceremony that will take place Wednesday 3rd June 2015 in the European Parliament in Brussels. The Award will be given in four different categories, Together for Social Europe, Building Learning Societies, Organising International Solidarity and the Lifetime Achievement Award. You can register here shall you wish to attend the ceremony.
