Freedom of Movement in the EU:
Challenges and Prospects for EU Citizens

which will take place during the Civil Society Days 2016

The first panel: Freedom of Movement: benefits and challenges for EU citizens will analyse the current trends with regard to free movement in the EU, including the impact of the new deal between the UK and the EU, and will discuss the main challenges for EU citizens. It will feature:

  • László Andor, Former Commissioner for Emplyment, Social Affairs and Inclusion in the Barroso II Commission
  • Pieter Cleppe, Head of Office of Open Europe
  • Paul Minderhoud, Associate professor at the Centre for Migration Law, Radboud University
  • Anthony Valcke, Solicitor, EU Rights Clinic

The second panel: The future of the Schengen agreement as a common area of freedom, security and justice will look into the current proposals for a revision of the Schengen agreement and their impact on free movement and on EUcitizenship and will analyse the costs of non-Schengen. The speakers will be:

  • Luca Jahier, President of Group III of the European Economic and Social Committee
  • Tanja Fajon, Member of the European Parliament
  • Boris Le Hir, Project manager, France Stratégie
  • Elena Dulguerova, Legal officer, Border Management and Schengen unit DG HOME, European Commission
