The Irish Universities Alumni Network Belgium would like to invite you to the 2016 edition of the annual Irish Universities Alumni Dinner, taking place at 19h00 at l’Atelier Restaurant, Rue Franklin 28, 1000 Brussels on Monday 20 June.

Our keynote speaker this year is European Ombudsman, Ms Emily O’Reilly. Ms O’Reilly was elected European Ombudsman in July 2013 and re-elected in December 2014 for a five-year mandate. She is an author and former journalist and broadcaster who became Ireland’s first female Ombudsman and Information Commissioner in 2003 and in 2007 she was also appointed Commissioner for Environmental Information.

The cost per person is €50. The dinner is open to alumni of Irish universities and their friends. Please note that places are limited to 50 and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve your place, please:

Emily O'Reilly

About Emily O’Reilly

Ms O’Reilly was elected European Ombudsman in July 2013 and re-elected in December 2014 for a five-year mandate. She is an author and former journalist and broadcaster who became Ireland’s first female Ombudsman and Information Commissioner in 2003 and in 2007 she was also appointed Commissioner for Environmental Information. As former political editor, broadcaster and author, her career attracted significant domestic and international recognition including a Harvard University Fellowship in 1988 and multiple national awards. She has written three critically acclaimed books on Irish politics and media and is a current member of the International Advisory Board of Harvard’s Nieman Foundation for Journalism. Ms O’Reilly is a graduate of University College Dublin with a Degree in European Languages and Literature (1979) and holds a Graduate Diploma in Education from Trinity College Dublin (1980). She was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Laws by the National University in Ireland in 2008 for her work in promoting human rights throughout her career as a journalist and through her work as Ombudsman. In 2014 she was conferred a second time with an Honorary Doctorate of Law from University College Dublin in Ireland. In the course of her journalistic career, she won two awards: Journalist of the Year and Woman Journalist of the Year.

The Irish Universities Alumni Network Belgium is an informal grouping of alumni representatives from universities in the island of Ireland who work together to pool resources and energies to organise and propose cultural and social events for the graduates and friends of universities of the island of Ireland living in or visiting Belgium and neighbouring countries.
