EM Poland: Schuman parade
Promoting the idea of European integration, confirming position of Poland in European structures and promoting active citizenship in public life are purposes of the European Meetings and the Schuman Parade.
The event is open to everyone – it is an exceptional feast of enthusiasm, energy and idea of European integration. This year, when European community faces many challenges, the event has a distinctive meaning. The future of the Schengen Area is uncertain due to wave of refugees seeking shelter in Europe from the effects of war in Syria. It has an impact on one of the most important European freedoms – mobility. It translates into shape of common market, labour migration and possibility of studying abroad. All these issues will be discussed in the Schuman’s Town, a street feast accompanying the Parade.
This year is also the 25th anniversary of signing the Treaty of Good Neighborhood and Friendly Cooperation between Poland and Germany. On this occasion organisers prepared historical lectures and simulations for schools. In collaboration with the European Commission Delegation in Poland organisers run the „Move your Europe” project – Oxford style debates for middle school students. Invited by the President of Warsaw, the Mayor of Berlin will join the Parade, as well as Polish-German group of representatives of youth councils. European Clubs from all over Poland will also participate, as well as participants of organiser’s projects from Spain, Italy and Greece. In partnership with Dutch Embassy in Poland, information about priorities of the Dutch EU Presidency will be presented.
