Making a success of Europe | Expectations from & Opportunities for Central Europe and the Balkans
The European Movement International and Raiffeisen Bank International held a panel event entitled ‘Making a success of Europe | Expectations from & Opportunities for Central Europe and the Balkans’ in Brussels, on Tuesday, 5 November 2019 (16:00-18:00).
The changes in the leadership of the European institutions gives rise to debate about the future direction of the EU. The past few years has seen robust discussions among Member States and EU institutions on a variety of contentious issues, pitting them at times against each other.
Though in the past there was a focus on policy disagreements, going forward we must now concentrate on maximising mutual benefits and opportunities. We have a responsibility to maintain the reciprocal relationship of the European Union and the CEE states – the countries from the region have benefited considerably as EU members, and have likewise contributed considerably to the growth and success of the European project.
This joint European Movement International – Raiffeisen Bank International panel event aimed to provide the setting for a constructive conversation about the opportunities of EU membership for EU member states from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as to give voice to their expectations for the next five years and beyond. The panel gathered senior politicians and stakeholders from the region in order to discuss with representatives of EU institutions, civil society, the private sector, think-tanks and others.
This was a public event featuring a diverse audience from a variety of sectors.
