Talking Europe with Wolfgang Burtscher, Director General of DG Agriculture & Rural Development

On Wednesday, 23 September from 15:30 to 16:30 CET, we held our next digital edition of Talking Europe, organised in partnership with the European Commission. This new series of online events aims to discuss the EU’s work and how it affects all Europeans.

Our guest, Wolfgang Burtscher, Director General of DG for Agriculture and Rural Development, discussed with us the recent exceptional measures implemented to support the agri-food sector, the structure and modalities of the next CAP and how the CAP fits in and contributes to the ambitious Green Deal.

Of particular importance in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, although temporarily overshadowed by the crisis, the Farm to Fork and Biodiversity strategies have revived public debate around the long-term future of the CAP and it’s potential adverse impact on EU’s agriculture and agri-food.

This was more important than ever to have an opportunity to discuss how to make the EU’s future agriculture, land and food policy more fit for purpose.

A replay of the live event is available here :

After the initial discussion, attendees had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session.

We encourage participants to join the discussions on Twitter using the hashtag #TalkingEurope. When tweeting, please use the handles @EMInternational and @EU_Commission.

The event is the fourth of a series of discussions entitled ‘Talking Europe’, organised in partnership with the European Commission with the aim to foster debate on the European Union’s work and its affect on the everyday lives of citizens, involving stakeholders from civil society, political institutions and the wider European community.
