ELEC: The troublesome challenges of QE and Brexit
The most recent meeting of ELEC’s Monetary Commissions focused on the sensitive issue of the Quantitative Easing policy of the European Central Bank. Speakers and participants formulated a lot of critical reflexions on the draconian decision to” print money” to pull the economy out of the crisis. But at the same time the question loomed: should the ECB then really have done nothing and let the deflationary recession go on? At the end of the meeting, room was made to discuss a perhaps even more troublesome issue for the European Union: will the coming UK referendum lead to a Brexit and what will be the consequences? ELEC members can read the summary of the two challenging debates on our website.
