European Movement Croatia organized series of lectures called Europe in Zagreb to inform Croatian civil society about different European countries and their views, positions, challenges, or accession processes of the European Union. This time, the lecture was given by the Ambassador of Portugal to Croatia H. E. Ms. Paula Leal da Silva, on Monday 15th of February 2021 via the Zoom platform. Ms. Leal da Silva presented the program of the Portuguese presidency, its main tasks but also topics that will certainly be in focus in the coming months.

On 1 January 2021, Portugal took over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the 4th time and will preside until 30 June 2021. The priorities of Portugal’s presidency are driven by its motto: “Time to deliver: a fair, green and digital recovery”.

The Portuguese presidency of the Council of the EU will focus on bringing the EU through the COVID-19 pandemic. It will promote an innovative vision of the EU, looks to the future, and is based on common values of solidarity, convergence, and cohesion. To achieve this, Portugal is committed to playing a positive and flexible role to act positively, promote cooperation, achieve tangible results in economic recovery, and lead the European Union out of the crisis.

In addition to the civilian population, representatives of embassies in Croatia, as well as representatives of state institutions, took part in the lecture.
