EM Germany and EM Austria: Repairing, reforming, transforming – Vienna and Berlin discuss perspectives for reconstruction and the EU budget
It is about almost two trillion euro and the challenge of putting Europe back on its feet after the worst economic crisis since the 1930s – expectations are high for the European Council, which will hold a special meeting in Brussels on Friday to discuss the EU’s next multi-annual financial framework (MFF) and the reconstruction plan. Where are the chances of agreement, where are the biggest pitfalls? At the beginning of a long week of European policy, the German-Austrian dialogue took stock of the current situation with regard to what we can expect from the special summit – and which role the German-speaking capitals will play in it. Discussion impulses were provided by the representative of the European Commission in Vienna, Prof. Dr. Martin Selmayr, the Berlin office manager of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Dr. Eefje Schmid, and the presidents of the European movements in Germany and Austria, Dr. Linn Selle and Dr. Christoph Leitl.
