EM Germany: Crisis management can only work on a European level!
Fighting the corona pandemic requires European reflexes instead of national selfishness. This is demanded by 27 representative associations from all parts of society in the EBD Telegram on European Solidarity in the Corona Crisis (as of April 6, 2020) of the European Movement Germany (EBD). The Süddeutsche Zeitung had published excerpts in advance.
The contributions have one thing in common: National border closures are more of a problem than a solution, crisis management measures must not undermine democracy, and rapid European solutions are needed to build confidence in Europe’s ability to act beyond the pandemic.

” The corona pandemic is a test for European cohesion, ” said EBD President Dr. Linn Selle . The particular circumstances and challenges of the corona crisis would neither justify national solo efforts and selfishness, Selle said. “The current crisis is also a cross-border challenge that affects all citizens and all areas of public life. This is illustrated by the diverse voices of our member organizations, which call for cross-border solutions, ”comments the EMCDDA President. The federal government now expects it to be proactive in providing concrete help and coordinating measures.
