EM Germany: #WeAreInThisTogether! | Solidarity campaign in front of the Italian embassy in Berlin
The forecourt of the Italian embassy in Berlin gave an unusual but very impressive picture on the morning of April 22nd: Politicians and representatives of social interest groups gathered – each 1.5 meters apart – to demonstrate European solidarity for Italy in the Corona crisis prior to the meeting of the European Council. Among the participants in the campaign were Dr. Linn Selle, President of the European Movement Germany, Vice President of EM Germany Christian Petry MdB and Secretary General of EM Germany Bernd Hüttemann. The campaign, which was built around the signing of a solidarity banner, was organized by Franziska Brantner, MdB and EM Germany board member, and several political organizations.
No country in Europe has been more severely affected by the spread of the Corona virus than Italy. The situation is worrying and it more than ever requires the support of our European neighbors. “For more European solidarity in the times of the pandemic, we need clear signs and concrete action!” stated Selle. In a unanimous decision, EM Germany’s board has recently taken a clear position: “In order to overcome the current crisis and with regards to the challenges that lie ahead, we have to find solutions that are coordinated at a European level”. The video conference of the European Council is now expected to act on words of solidarity. On April 23, the heads of government will discuss further measures to contain the Corona crisis and the next steps for economic recovery and the possible loosening of the restrictions.
