EM Germany will hold an “EBD Dialogue” on EU-Turkey relations today. The event will take place in the Turkish Embassy in Berlin. The topic of discussion, “EU-Turkish Relations in times of migration crisis”, had been agreed on long ago – now the debate will take place amidst a big political row between Ankara and Berlin about a satirical poems and legal action against it. Even more, EM Germany’s President Dr. Rainer Wend calls on coming back to a matter of fact mode of discussion. “Time for cool dialogue and factual solutions has come”, he says in his statement ahead of the event. There’s no bargaining about Freedom of Press, Opinion and Art, he insists. Turkey must democratise if it wants to follow the road towards Europe. But huge problems can only be solved together: „Bunu ancak birlikte başarabiliriz! – We can only make it togehter“, Wend finishes his statement in Turkish.
