The Secretary General of the EPP, Antonio López-Istúriz MEP, has reaffirmed EPP’s full support to Juan Guaidó as the Interim President of Venezuela and the National Assembly as the only democratic institution currently in the country. López-Istúriz’s remarks were during a meeting of the EPP Working Group on Foreign Affairs, which has had the President of Venezuela as a guest. There were representatives of EPP member parties from all over Europe at the meeting.

“The elections on December 6 are a sham for dictator Maduro to keep himself in power. We demand fair, just and transparent elections in the country,” stated López-Istúriz. EPP’s Secretary General also warned about “the terrible consequences, also for Europe and worldwide, of the increase of authoritarian regimes in Latin America (…) We need to speak loud and clear and act strategically.”
