Europa Nostra: Third edition of the Annual Policy Conversation “A Cultural Deal for Europe” held successfully
The third edition of the Annual Policy Conversation “A Cultural Deal for Europe” was held successfully on 1 February 2022, offering a unique platform for dialogue between the European cultural ecosystem and EU policy-makers, advocating for culture to become central in the EU’s green and sustainable future. More than 700 participants from Europe and beyond followed the event live.
The yearly rendez-vous is organised in the framework of the #CulturalDealEU campaign, jointly developed by Culture Action Europe, the European Cultural Foundation, and Europa Nostra, also in its capacity as coordinator of the European Heritage Alliance.
This year’s event featured contributions from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen; European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Mariya Gabriel; European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira and French Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot. In addition, leading representatives of each hosting organisation, namely Tere Badia, Secretary General of Culture Action Europe, Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra and André Wilkens, Director of the European Cultural Foundation, enriched the discussions structured in three thematic sessions: ‘Culture for Recovery and Sustainability in Europe‘: ‘Culture and cultural heritage in the European Green Deal‘; and ‘Culture for the Future of Europe‘. All speakers highlighted once again the huge value of culture for our society and environment, its vital contribution to our well-being and to the long-term sustainability of the European project. The key role of artists, cultural workers and heritage operators in advancing Europe’s green transformation was also brought to the spotlight.
