In the framework of her official visit to Serbia, German Chancellor, Ms. Angela Merkel, met with representatives of non-governmental organisations, among which the European Movement in Serbia, was represented by Secretary General Ms. Maja Bobić.
The main topics of discussion were the process of Serbia’s accession to the European Union and the opening of negotiating chapters, as well as the status of the reforms in the process of Serbia’s EU integration, and aspects of regional cooperation and stability.
Maja Bobić pointed out the importance of opening the chapters as soon as possible which could thus become an instrument in more efficient implementation of reforms in Serbia. Equal importance is given to all chapters in the essential preparation for membership of Serbia, as well as for the securing support of the citizens for an EU perspective.
Bobić put special emphasis on the role of civil society in the process of negotiations and the National Convent on the European Union, which could and should contribute to the sustainability of the changes in Serbian political, economic, and social systems.
