Policy One Pager: Financing for Development
2015 will see three important summits taking place on Financing Development (July, Addis Ababa), Sustainable Development (September, New York) and Climate (December, Paris).
On 13 – 16 July, the Third International Financing for Development Conference will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The conference follows on from the 2002 Monterrey Conference in Mexico and the 2008 Doha Follow-up Conference in Qatar. At the first conference Heads of State and Government adopted the Monterrey Consensus, a development aid commitment which since has become the main point of reference for development financing. In the Monterrey Consensus, world leaders endorsed the 0.7% of Gross National Income (GNI) target for official development assistance (ODA).
Earlier this year, Members of the European Movement International adopted a full policy position on these conferences. The European Movement believes that 2015 offers a unique opportunity to end poverty, reduce inequality and to avert the destructive effects of a global temperature rise.
