SGI: Europe welcomes the re-opening of the debate on the EU economic governance and fiscal rules
On 19 October 2021, the European Commission presented its communication “The EU economy after COVID-19: implications for economic governance”, relaunching the debate on the EU fiscal governance initially building up on the lessons from the pandemic.
Commenting the communication, Valeria Ronzitti, SGI Europe General Secretary, said:
“Today is the beginning of a long journey and SGI Europe is ready to be an integral part of it. As a new start for the discussions on the EU fiscal rules and economic governance, we call for dully taking into account all the lessons of the pandemic which revealed our structural vulnerabilities.
In this context, we believe that productive investments in high-quality services of general interest should be put on equal footing with the objective of debt consolidation.”
