Think, act and govern in a European way! EM Germany’s Political Agenda out in English
“Think, act and govern in a European way!” This is the guideline (and the title) of EM Germany’s Political Agenda for 2016/17. EM Germany’s 250 member organisations agreed on 12 demands for a better Europe at their annual general assembly this summer. Now a short version of the programme is out in English.
Here are just the headlines to reflect the scope: “Safeguard European values!“ – “Reform the EU – with pro-European civic forces!“ – “Educate Europe, strengthen a European consciousness!” – “Open borders in a united Europe!” – “Act together: a common EU refugee, asylum and migration policy!” – “European public diplomacy: establish cross-border dialogue!” – “Promote global and transparent competitiveness!” – “Prepare EU politics for sustainability goals and the climate treaty!” – “Better Regulation needs transparency and rigour!” – “Defend Europe together!” – “Continue pioneering: equality on all levels!”
A first draft had been presented at the European Movement International’s Federal Assembly in Den Haag last May. With the EM Germany general assembly being held just a few days after the Brexit referendum, rather unanimous consent among German civil society groups about Europe being in desperate need of reform was not really a surprise.
