How can we ensure gender equality and what are the necessary steps to be taken in the years ahead in order to guarantee this equality? To tackle these questions the EU Commission has presented practical measures to promote equality in its working document based on the 2010-2015 equality strategy.

Representatives of civil society, the Federal Government and the European Commission joined the European Movement Germany on Friday 29 January discussion on gender equality. According to the Commissions Strategy five main points shall be promoted: fostering female employment and the economic independence of men and women, the reduction of gender specific income differences, equality in decision-making processes, the protection of victims as well as the empowerment of women’s rights globally and fighting (old age) poverty of women as well as gender specific violence
