Vote on the European Semester for economic policy coordination: Annual Sustainable Growth Strategy 2020. 

Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety
The committee will hold an extraordinary meeting. On the agenda: exchange of views with Greta Thunberg, climate activist.

Thursday 5 March

Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting
Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM), in collaboration with the Directorate for Relations with National Parliaments, will organise an Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting on “The 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action”. The event will take a look back on progress achieved on gender equality and forward to anticipate future challenges. The participants will have an opportunity to take stock of achievements and best practices, as well as of the remaining challenges of this important agenda of women’s empowerment in order to accelerate the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by 2030.

Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety
Vote on Amending Decision No 1313/2013/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on a Union Civil Protection Mechanism. Exchange of views with the European Court of Auditors on Special Report No 05/2020 on Sustainable use of plant protection products: limited progress in measuring and reducing risks.

Informal meeting of defence ministers
An informal meeting of EU defence ministers will be held in Zagreb on 4 and 5 March 2020, and will be organized by the Ministry of Defence. Ministers will exchange views on the latest developments in the field of the EU Common Security and Defence Policy. The topics in focus will be defence initiatives strengthening the European security and defence cooperation, the promotion of security and stability in the immediate neighbourhood, facing hybrid and cyber threats, and enhancing the EU-NATO cooperation. The meeting will be chaired by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

Informal meeting of foreign affairs ministers
The Croatian Presidency of the Council of the EU will host the Informal Meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers (Gymnich) in Dvorac, Lužnica.

Exhibition “Female Notes”
To commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day (8 March), the EESC is staging an exhibition entitled “Female Notes”. Taking the form of biographical panels of female composers and musicians from the nineteenth century, the exhibition traces the social identity of female musicians from that time to the present day and pays tribute to hundreds of female artists across Europe as it also traces the evolution of musical culture.

2nd ECON Commission Meeting
ECON members will discuss financial instruments for cohesion, multi-annual financial framework (MFF), European semester / Economic Governance, Trade. 

Stakeholder Consultation on “The Future of EU Clean Air policy in the framework of the zero-pollution ambition” 
The Committee of the Regions is preparing an opinion on “The Future of EU Clean Air policy in the framework of the zero-pollution ambition”. The rapporteur Mr János Ádám Karácsony (HU/EPP) Member of Tahitótfalu Council and member of the CoR Commission for Environment, Climate Change and Energy (ENVE) wishes to discuss the proposal of a Zero pollution action plan for water, air and soil, scheduled for 2021, and exchange best practices with relevant stakeholders.

COTER members will discuss territorial cohesion, urban policy, urban mobility.

Thursday 5 March

Croatian Presidency


Tuesday 3 March

Working Party on International Environment Issues
The meeting will be held in Zagreb and will discuss the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement in the part dealing with the general, legal and expert issues of these international treaties. Experts from EU Member States will agree on a common position to be endorsed by the Council Working Group, and the European Union will present the same at a meeting of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United Nations Framework Conference on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement later this year.

Conference on ‘Investment to support digitalisation and the climate transition in France’
The European Investment Bank and Banque de France will organise a conference, which aims to bring together researchers from central banks, academia, policy-making institutions and the private sector. The conference will focus on how to help overcome the current investment gap by mobilising private financing to support digitalisation and the climate transition in France

Friday 6 March

PACE Standing Committee meets in Paris
The Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will meet in Paris. The parliamentarians will debate the functioning and future of the Parliamentary Assembly, prevention of violence and discrimination against religious minorities amongst refugees in Europe, as well as the observation of early parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan that took place on 9 February 2020. Participants will also debate the prevention of violence and discrimination against religious minorities amongst refugees in Europe.
