European Economic and Social Committee


Wednesday 3 November

Beyond GDP measures for a successful recovery and a sustainable and resilient EU economy
GDP is the best-known measure of macro-economic activity. However, EESC states that was not designed to be a comprehensive measure of prosperity and well-being. The Section for Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion (ECO) of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is currently working on an own-initiative opinion on ‘Beyond GDP measures for a successful recovery and a sustainable and resilient EU economy’.

Thursday 4 November

Civil society perspectives on the European Rule of Law Mechanism
The conference will cover developments in the EU in the area of fundamental rights and the rule of law in 2020-2021. It will offer a space for dialogue amongst stakeholders, in particular the ones which contributed to country visits led by the EESC Fundamental Rights and Rule of Law (FRRL) Group in 2020-2021 and to the first two European Commission Rule of Law Reports published in 2020 and 2021.

Friday 5 November

Civil Society Organisations: Key Actors for the Future of Europe
Through this conference, the Diversity Europe Group, in partnership with Civil Society Europe, wishes to draw attention to social developments of civil society organizations and provide a forum for reviewing the state of civil society organisations in Europe, in collaboration with representatives of civil society organisations active on the ground and their European umbrella organisations.

Council of Europe


Tuesday 2 November

ROMACTED, “Promoting good governance and Roma empowerment at local level”,
The Programme is implemented by the Council of Europe and the European Union (DG NEAR). Local, national and international stakeholders will come together for the official launch of Phase II of the ROMACTED Programme in Serbia and participate in the ceremony of signing the Memoranda of Understanding between the Council of Europe, Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue and 14 local authority representatives.

Wednesday 3 November

The National Strategy on the Development of the Penitentiary System in the Republic of North Macedonia (2021-2025)
This programme will be presented alongside the medical equipment provided for penitentiary institutions with the support of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.

Friday 5 November

Council of Europe’s work on sexual orientation and gender identity
A roundtable will be organised by the Council of Europe and the Ministry of Equality of Spain to discuss the legal and practical situation of trans, intersex and gender-diverse persons with regard to legal gender recognition in Spain.

Conference on the Future of Europe


Friday 5 – Saturday 6 November

Conference on the Future of Europe – Second session of the first Citizens’ Panel
The second session of the first Citizens’ Panel will take place. The Panel encompasses the following topics: “stronger economy, social justice and jobs / youth, sport, culture and education / digital transformation” and addresses the future of our economy and jobs, especially after the pandemic, paying due attention to the related issues of social justice. It will also tackle the opportunities and challenges of digital transformation – one of the biggest future-oriented topics under debate. The Panel will also deal with the future of Europe in the areas of youth, sport, culture and education.
