Women’s Participation in European Democratic Life
On Tuesday, 8th March from 13:00-14:00 CET, the European Movement International will hold an online panel organised on the occasion of International Women’s Day, entitled “Women’s Participation in European Democratic Life”. This event will be a great opportunity to gather a panel of high-level women speakers from NGOs and institutions to share their expertise and agenda on how to build an inclusive European governance, and reaffirm the importance of equal participation of women and men in citizens initiatives, in advocacy and in political arenas.

EuropeanChats featuring the European Movement UK and the European Movement Switzerland
On Thursday, 10 March from 13:00-14:00 CET, the European Movement International will hold the tenth edition of EuropeanChats, this time featuring the European Movement UK and the European Movement Switzerland. EuropeanChats gathers activists and stakeholders from the European Movement International network, to discuss with European citizens different issues surrounding the COVID-19 crisis, and how it affects European economies and societies. We also aim to tackle the wider debate around the future of Europe.

The heads of state and government will gather during an informal meeting from Thursday to Friday in Versailles.

Monday 07 March

Informal meeting of development ministers
The ministers of state for development of the 27 Member States will discuss the challenges of cooperation in the field of development in a context of heightened competition in the priority regions of the EU and post-COVID-19 recovery. This informal meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in its development format will be chaired by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

Informal meeting of culture ministers
The informal meeting of culture ministers in Angers will be an opportunity to reaffirm Europe’s commitment to cultural and linguistic diversity as a pillar of the European model, by proposing concrete measures to strengthen European cultural sovereignty in the digital age. However, this aim can only be meaningful and effective if Europe is also able to develop a shared European cultural space that includes diverse identities engaging in close dialogue and based on common values. These shared values will be bolstered by a heritage policy developed at European level and by the construction of a European citizenship based on the shared awareness of a common heritage.

Tuesday 8 March

College meeting
The College of Commissioners will convene on Tuesday. Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans is expected to present the Joint European Action for more affordable, secure and sustainable energy, while Commissioner Věra Jourová will launch a proposal to prevent and combat specific forms of gender-based violence.

Gabriel delivers speech for the European Commission’s Gender Equality Strategy
Commissioner Mariya Gabriel will deliver an opening speech, via pre-recorded video message, at the “Launch of the Monitoring Portal for the European Commission’s Gender Equality Strategy”.

Hahn participates in “Achieving the green transition: From access to low carbon energy to sustainable finance” Ministerial Conference
Commissioner Johannes Hahn will participate in the Ministerial Conference about “Achieving the green transition: From access to low carbon energy to sustainable finance”

Reynders participates in colloquium on the assistance to victims of major crisis
Commissioner Didier Reynders will participate via videoconference in a colloquium organised by the French Presidency on the assistance to victims of major crisis.

European Economic and Social Committee


Tuesday 8 March

Women in the labour market
In the broader sense of creating a culture of equality, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), upon proposal of the Ad Hoc Group on Equality (AHGE), will hold a conference entitled “Women in the labour market” on 8 March to commemorate International Women’s Day. The event includes four thematic presentations, followed by a debate with EESC members and the audience, video contributions from the European Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, and the Chair of the European Parliament Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, Robert Biedroń, and a cultural video performance.

European Union Drugs Agency Proposals
In order to prepare its opinion on the proposals by the European Commission on the European Drugs Agency, the EESC will hold a remote public hearing. The aim of the event is to discuss the proposals and gather input from other EU institutions, international organisations and civil society, which will feed into the EESC’s opinion.

Committee of the Regions

CoR Members at Climate Chance Summit Europe 2022  
Several CoR members will participate in the Climate Change Summit in Nantes, organized by the Climate Chance Alliance in collaboration with the French Ministry of Ecology. It will be held in synergy with the framework of the European Climate Conference organized by the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Thursday 10 March – Friday 11 March

ENVE Commission meeting and Conference
The 11th ENVE commission meeting will take place on Thursday, 10 March 2022 from 11:15 to 13:00 and from 14:30 to 17:30 and Friday, 11 March 2022 from 10:00 to 13:00 at the European Committee of the Regions.

French Presidency


Monday 7 March – Tuesday 8 March

European Climate Conference
The European Climate Conference will bring together high-level representatives of the EU Member States, the European Commission and the European Parliament. Prominent figures from civil society, the scientific community, businesses and local governments will also join. The conference will be structured around talks and presentations given by high-level experts and scientists, as well as round tables and demonstrations.

Meeting of Strategic Affairs Directors
This is a meeting between Strategic Affairs Directors of the 27 EU Member States. They will discuss issues relating to the Common Security and Defence Policy, particularly the “Strategic Compass”. Launched under the German Presidency of the Council, the “Strategic Compass” is to be adopted in March 2022 in order to develop a future White Paper on European Defence.

Monday 7 March

Mobilising police officers against domestic violence
On 7 March, FRA’s Director will take part in a virtual round table discussion on mobilising law enforcement services against domestic violence.

Wednesday 9 March

French Presidency disability conference looks at accessibility and access to rights
FRA will present its research findings in the area of disability. It will focus on the insights gained from its survey work into the situation of people with disabilities on the labour market. Ministers and state secretaries will discuss how to implement the 2021-2030 EU Disability Strategy with a focus on mobility and accessibility, an inclusive labour market and improving educational opportunities for people with disabilities.

Friday 11 March

Executive Board
The Executive Board will discuss several issues regarding FRA’s ongoing work and will prepare for the upcoming Management Board of May.

Meeting No. 551 of the Board of Directors
In accordance with its Rules of Procedure, the EIB convenes the meetings of its Board of Directors at least six times a year. In line with the EIB Group Transparency Policy, the Bank publishes: the meeting agenda, as from four days before the meeting; the minutes of the meeting, including the list of conflicts of interest declared by the participants with respect to a project to be financed. The minutes are in principle approved in the following meeting and are subsequently published on the Bank’s website.

The Committee of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse plenary session
The Committee of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse (Lanzarote Committee) will hold its 36th plenary meeting dedicated primarily to the adoption of its 2nd monitoring round findings on: “The protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse facilitated by information and communication technologies (ICTs)”.

Thursday 10 March

Publication of the Committee for the prevention of torture’s report on Serbia
The committee for the prevention of torture (CPT) will publish its report on its visit to Serbia carried out from 9 to 19 March 2021 during the pandemic. The visit focused on the situation in law-enforcement establishments including impunity related issues, prisons, psychiatric hospitals and social care homes.
