The labour market in rural areas
On 15 September 2022, the EESC’s Labour Market Observatory will hold a remote public hearing on The labour market in rural areas. Speakers due to attend include representatives of the European institutions, Eurofound and the EESC, as well as the social partners and other civil society organisations.

Recapitalising EU businesses – An innovative way towards a sustained and inclusive recovery
Small and Medium-sized companies represent 99.8% of all firms, 65% of employment and 53% of the value added generated by the non-financial business sector in the EU. Following the COVID-19 crisis, the public response delivered solutions to address liquidity and short term issues. However, SMEs overindebtedness demands some sort of recapitalisation instrument that allows them to keep or increase their investment effort. The aim of this hearing is to discuss on possible solutions to ease access to equity funding, for instance, through a common EU-wide recapitalisation instrument, along with the presentation of case studies.

​During this year’s Democracy Day discussions, a wide range of high-level speakers, international democracy advocates and activists from both sides of the Atlantic and the Global South will address the challenges of this new world order for democracy. They will discuss the mechanisms to protect and support democracy, such as Team Europe, and the potential for greater North-South collaboration.

Climate change adaptation conference Designing Climate Resilient Landscapes
The Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic is hosting an international conference focused on the topic of approaches currently utilized to promote climate adaptation in Europe and their successes in Prague on 13-14 September 2022. Confirmed keynote speakers include Hans-Otto Pörtner from Working Group 2 of the IPCC, Hans Bruyninckx, the Executive Director of the European Environment Agency, and Clara de la Torre, Deputy Director-General of Directorate-General Climate Action of the European Commission.

Wednesday 14 September – Friday 16 September

Workshop on the Implementation of the New EU Forest Strategy
Workshop is focused on forest monitoring within EU member states. It will take place in Kutná Hora with forest field trip close to Kostelec nad Černými lesy.
